ABOUT BRIAN FERRADO
What is something many clients don’t understand about their social presence?
Social media is the wild wild west when it comes to building and curating your brand presence. Many people view it as a platform strictly for advertising, or a way to “go viral” (without really understanding what that means). Social media is both of these things and neither. You can’t just focus on advertising, because to build a successful presence requires organic entertainment. Your company’s social media should highlight its purpose, but also its role in the greater social media landscape, and why people should reward it with their time.
What’s your favorite aspect about working here?
My favorite thing about working at Mad Men is the creative process, and how flexible it is.
Hit a block? Go take a walk.
In a rut? Grab a coworker and head out for a beer and an impromptu brainstorming session.
Find whatever works best for you, and then make it happen so you can give your best work.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy working on my podcast Aging Gay Millennial (shameless plug), I love watching RuPaul’s Drag Race (the only reality tv show I recommend), and I love reading Marvel Comics. I also enjoy watching tv & movies, and if one ever came out about two drag queen superheroes who have a talk show, I would never be seen again.
Tell us about your podcast.
My podcast is called “Aging Gay Millennial” and it’s about me being an older gay millennial and how that informs my perception of the world. Tonally my podcast ranges from serious to silly, and even if you’re not an Aging Gay Millennial, I think you’ll enjoy it. You can find me on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, or at your local wine bar.
What’s one of your favorite places to visit?
One of my most favorite places to visit in the world is Ogunquit, Maine. It is so much fun, and so beautiful, and the people are unfailingly charming. I could definitely see myself retiring there one day to read, write, and run a successful social media brand.
Who inspires you?
There are a few different people who inspire me, from my grandparents to some fictional characters, but if I had to pick someone who I would like to aspire to be like, and who motivates me to keep bringing it to the next level, I’d pick RuPaul. RuPaul is a successful drag queen who has parlayed that success into a multi-media juggernaut of an empire. RuPaul is a master of cross-promoting his brand and marketing it to anyone and everyone he can.
How do you start your day?
I start my day each day by waking up and reading the news and then a comic or two, because in my opinion, you need to stay informed but you need to hold onto that feeling of wonder. Also coffee, offensive amounts of coffee.
